100+ Indians Stranded in Iran Amid Israel-Iran Tensions: Alipur Families Await Safe Return
As tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, over 100 Indian nationals remain stranded in Iran — many of whom are from Alipur, a predominantly Shia Muslim village in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district.
🔍 Who Are the Stranded?
Among the stranded are:
- Students pursuing MBBS, theology, and religious studies
- Families and business professionals
- Individuals who had travelled for education, business, or religious reasons
"From Alipur alone, around 50 students are studying in Qom, 15 are pursuing MBBS in Tehran, and 25–30 are involved in business activities. Including families, there are over 100 people from Alipur in Iran," said a local community representative.
🕌 Deep Cultural Ties With Iran
Alipur, with a population of ~25,000, has deep-rooted religious ties with Iran.
Over 90% of the village follows Shia Islam, aligning with Iran's majority Shia population.
“Alipur shares a religious bond with Iran, not political or economic,” explained a village elder.
“Our children often go there to study at schools of Shia theology.”
📍 What's Happening on the Ground?
- Students and families are currently sheltered in safer locations like Qom and Mashhad.
- The Indian Embassy in Tehran is in touch with all individuals and has collected their details through official forms.
- Efforts are ongoing to consolidate them in secure zones and coordinate evacuation if necessary.
“We’ve been in constant contact with our children in Iran,” said a worried parent.
“They’re safe for now, but the situation is uncertain. We trust both governments will act quickly.”
🧭 Community Action
The Anjuman Jafariya (local Shia community body) has submitted detailed reports to:
- Local authorities
- Karnataka State Government
- Indian Embassy in Tehran
They have confirmed that:
- All students have been moved to safer regions
- Evacuation options are being explored in case of further escalations
🇮🇳 Government Monitoring the Situation
Indian authorities, both at the central and state level, are working closely with the Embassy and Iranian officials to ensure:
- Safety of Indian nationals
- Potential repatriation logistics if necessary
As tensions rise in the Middle East, families in Alipur and across India wait with hope and prayers for the safe return of their loved ones.
